Beginning this January, the next phase of the downtown two-way conversion project will commence. Liberty and Main streets will be converted to two-way traffic from Brookstown Avenue to Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. This phase also includes converting the remaining blocks of Third Street between Main Street and Town Run Lane.
The project involves modifications to Old Salem Road and Brookstown Avenue, aligning the northbound approach with Liberty Street. It includes grading, street resurfacing, new pavement markings, updated traffic signage, traffic signal modifications, and curb adjustments.
The construction is expected to last approximately ten months. Full road closures are not anticipated; disruptions during construction will be minimized by working in segments rather than closing the entire length of the project.
In 2022, the city completed the First and Second streets two-way conversion portion of this initiative.
