Carolina University trio earns NCCAA South All-Region honors

Carolina University women's basketball team has seen three of its players receive recognition for their performances in the NCCAA South All-Region honors. Le'Asia Matthews and Felesia Ondongo were selected for the First Team, while Bianca Gonzalez earned a spot on the Second Team. These athletes played significant roles in leading the Bruins to a 15-9 season.

Le'Asia Matthews was an essential offensive player, leading her team with an average of 12.4 points per game over 24 games. She scored a total of 297 points and had a field goal percentage of 34.5%. Matthews made 22 three-pointers and averaged 2.6 rebounds per game along with providing 43 assists. She frequently reached the free-throw line, where she converted 60.9% of her attempts.

Felesia Ondongo contributed both offensively and defensively, averaging 12.0 points and securing a team-high average of 6.6 rebounds per game across 23 games. She shot at a rate of 38.3% from the field and successfully made 39 three-pointers at a rate of 31.2%. Her free-throw accuracy stood at 73.2%, complemented by her defensive contributions that included 34 steals and five blocks.

Bianca Gonzalez was known for her perimeter shooting, completing the season with a total of 55 three-pointers at a shooting percentage of 31.6%. She averaged 11.0 points per game and played the most minutes on the team, totaling up to 679 minutes on court time. Gonzalez also added an average of four rebounds per contest, along with contributing to her team's efforts through assists (34) and steals (37). Her free-throw success rate was notable at hitting an impressive mark of over eighty percent.

The accomplishments achieved by these players have been pivotal to Carolina University's performance this season, resulting in their deserved acknowledgment as NCCAA South All-Region honorees.
