Columbia International defeats Carolina University in high-scoring baseball game

Carolina University faced Columbia International University in a high-scoring baseball game, resulting in a 13-9 loss for Carolina. The teams combined for an impressive 12 runs in the first two innings.

The game began with CIU taking an early 4-0 lead. Carolina responded with four runs of their own, highlighted by a two-run homer from C. Lee. In the second inning, A. Fontanez hit a grand slam, putting Carolina ahead 8-4.

CIU gradually reduced the gap and regained control with five runs in the fifth inning, thanks to home runs from B. Garland and M. Gomez, bringing the score to 11-8. Carolina managed one more run in the fifth, but CIU's bullpen held them scoreless for the remainder of the match.

In the eighth inning, CIU added two unearned runs to secure their victory as their pitching staff continued to stifle Carolina's offense over the last four innings.

Key players for Carolina included A. Fontanez with a grand slam and C. Lee with a two-run homer. D. Gonzalez contributed with an RBI triple while A. Rodriguez scored twice and hit a double.

For CIU, B. Garland hit a home run and drove in three RBIs; M. Gomez also homered with two RBIs; K. Smith scored three times.

Carolina will next face Ohio Christian University at Truist Stadium on Friday, March 14th for a doubleheader.
