The city of Winston-Salem is taking measures to address the extreme cold conditions expected this weekend by offering emergency shelter services for individuals and families experiencing unsheltered homelessness. This initiative is a collaboration with local agencies within the Continuum of Care.
Individuals in need can access warming center services at The Dwelling, located at 502 N. Broad Street in downtown Winston-Salem. The facility will open its doors at 6 p.m. due to the impending storm. The Dwelling provides a warm space but does not function as a sleeping shelter. It accommodates single women and families seeking relief from the cold. Visitors bringing animals must ensure they are leashed or kept in a crate, and due to space constraints, only one bag per person is permitted.
Additionally, year-round emergency shelters are available at Bethesda Center for the Homeless, Salvation Army, and Samaritan Ministries.
