Some water customers in the Kernersville area may experience temporary discoloration or taste changes in their tap water. However, the water remains safe for drinking, cooking, and bathing.

The issue stems from a recent water main failure that prompted the R.A. Thomas Water Treatment Plant to switch its primary source from the Yadkin River to Salem Lake. Repairs are ongoing, with completion expected by Monday, October 21.

Officials assure that any discoloration is only an appearance issue and does not violate state or federal water quality standards. Public health and safety remain unaffected. Residents are advised against washing laundry if discoloration is present to prevent staining of light-colored fabrics.

Customers are encouraged to report any pressure fluctuations, taste changes, or discolored water to WSFC Utilities through CityLink at citylink@cityofws.org, by calling 336-727-8000, or via cityofws.org/citylink. Updates on utilities can be subscribed to through Alert Center and News Flash at cityofws.org/notifyme.
