The City of Winston-Salem has announced that applications are now open for the upcoming session of the City of Winston-Salem University. The program, scheduled to start on Thursday, Aug. 22, aims to provide residents with a comprehensive understanding of the city government and its operations.

According to a city official, the program is designed to give participants insight into various aspects of the city government. "This no cost, in-person program gives residents a better understanding of city government, including the responsibilities of various city departments and the city’s role in the community," the official stated.

The program will consist of 12 weeks of classes, with sessions held on Thursday evenings for three hours each. Topics covered will include city governance and finance, sanitation, utilities operations, transportation, public safety, planning and economic development, housing, and recreation.

Interested individuals are encouraged to apply promptly as the class size is limited to 20 city residents. An official involved in the program selection process emphasized that participants will be chosen through an application process. "Class size is limited to 20 city residents who will be selected through an application process," the official explained.

Applications for the City of Winston-Salem University must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Friday, July 12. Those interested can access the application and additional information online at CityofWS.org/CWSU. The application can be either printed and mailed in or submitted electronically.
