The City of Winston-Salem has announced updates to the fee schedule for various services provided by the Winston-Salem Fire Department (WSFD), effective July 1, 2024. This update comes following City Council Resolution 24-0368.
Key changes include adjustments in fees for periodic inspections, fire code violation visits, storage tank installations, and permits. The initial periodic inspection fee for vacant properties is set at $25, while occupied properties will incur a $50 charge. Subsequent visits for fire code violations will range from $75 to $500 depending on the number of visits.
Storage tank installation fees remain unchanged at $200. Various permits such as those for combustible dust, blasting/explosives, flammable/combustible materials, spraying/dipping operations, and AG/BG tank removal have been updated with fees ranging from $100 to $200.
Fire standby requests are now set at $250. Courtesy inspections for foster homes and day care centers are each priced at $50, while ABC inspections cost $100.
Additionally, penalties related to fire code and life safety violations have been revised. Overcrowding fines are set at $100 per person with a minimum fine of $500. Other violations including unauthorized burning, failure of keyholder response to fire alarms, blocked exits, alarm system testing requirements among others have specific charges detailed in the new schedule.
Fees associated with shop drawings review (fire-related) have also been specified: fire alarm plans and extinguishing systems both cost $150 each; construction plan reviews vary based on project value ranging from $50 to $1,500.
The updated fee schedule aims to ensure compliance with safety standards and cover administrative costs associated with these services.
