NASCAR has acquired Winston-Salem Speedway Inc., the current promoter of the weekly racing series at Bowman Gray Stadium, under a 30-year lease with the city of Winston-Salem through December 2050. The city of Winston-Salem will retain ownership of Bowman Gray Stadium, and as stated by the city, "will continue to operate and maintain Bowman Gray Stadium, and its agreements with its two major tenants – Winston-Salem State University and NASCAR/Winston-Salem Speedway Inc. – will remain in place."

The city also confirmed that the Bowman Gray Stadium Field House will remain the home of Winston-Salem State University Athletics and the university’s motorsports program. Additionally, the Winston-Salem State University Rams will continue to host their home football games at the stadium in the fall.

Over the past few years, the city has invested $9 million in various improvements to Bowman Gray Stadium, including the construction of new restrooms and concession stands, new drainage around the track and football field, regrading of the football field, resurfacing of the track, and other enhancements. These projects were completed in the fall of 2022.
