Water customers in Rural Hall are currently without water service due to a water main break caused by recent freezing temperatures. The affected areas include the 7000 block of Broad Street (N.C. 66) south along University Parkway in Winston-Salem to Ziglar Road, as well as several side streets. Service was shut off after 8 p.m. and crews are working through the night to repair the damage.

According to Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Utilities, they have received more than a dozen emergency calls since Friday due to the extreme weather conditions. The utility company is urging customers to remain patient while first responders work around the clock to address each call.

"If you are experiencing water problems at your home or business, turn off your main water supply shut-off valve to minimize flooding if a pipe breaks," advised a representative from WSFC Utilities. "Preventative steps are best taken before cold weather hits, but simple home improvement measures could prevent problems and expensive repairs in the future."

In response to the water emergency, WSFC Utilities has provided some recommendations for customers. They suggest insulating water heaters, pipes, and faucets, especially in unheated spaces. It is also recommended to disconnect and drain outdoor water hoses during freezing temperatures. Additionally, during extreme cold, opening cabinet doors for warmer air circulation and allowing faucets to trickle slowly can help prevent frozen pipes.

For immediate assistance with a water emergency or sewer backup, customers are advised to call City Link at 336-727-8000. While WSFC Utilities cannot assist with plumbing repairs on private property, their staff can shut off water at the meter in case of an emergency.
