It is important to dispose of medicine properly instead of flushing it down the toilet or drain because wastewater treatment systems are not capable of removing medications from the waterways. Medication flushed down the drain can contaminate downstream lakes and streams, which can harm fish and other aquatic wildlife, and can end up in our drinking water supply!
