It's official! We held a dedication ceremony today naming the Central Library building after long-time library director Sylvia Sprinkle-Hamlin.
Sprinkle-Hamlin served as the director of the Forsyth County Public Library system from 2000-2019. She was the first African American and first woman to serve in that role.
Sprinkle-Hamlin joined the library system in 1979 as head of children's outreach. She was promoted to assistant director in 1980, and to association library director in 1984. She was involved in numerous community activities. She served as the chair of the board of the N.C. Black Repertory Company and the executive producer of the National Black Theatre Festival.
She passed away in January. County Commissioners were honored to participate in today's ceremony with her family, County library employees, and staff and volunteers of the National Black Theatre Festival and North Carolina Black Repertory Company, Winston-Salem, NC
