North Carolina Association on Aging 2022 NCAOA Excellence in the Field of Aging Award

4 1

The City of King would like to congratulate Paula Hall, King Senior Center Director, for being awarded the North Carolina Association on Aging 2022 NCAOA Excellence in the Field of Aging Award. Mrs. Hall was presented the Guiding Star Award at the King City Council meeting Monday, June 6, 2022. This award honors a supervisor or manager for quality supervisory skills in the management of programs and staff they provide that benefit older adults. This award recognizes their ability to supervise and motivate staff as they provide quality work in their community.

Mrs. Hall was hired in late 2019, so she had to regroup when the pandemic arrived in early 2020 quickly. During the shutdown, she designed various means to keep her participants engaged and not totally isolated. She created the Zoom chat that is still going, phone calls and emails to connect further with participants, virtual book club, drive-thru events, and some socially distanced outdoor activities when acceptable per pandemic guidelines. Following the full reopening, the center has grown steadily and significantly.

Some plans for the foreseeable future at the King Senior Center are for a community garden, outreach to underserved areas in Stokes County, an open house for the community, and additional outdoor activities during the warmer months.

Paula is warm, gentle, and has a giving personality who truly cares about every senior who walks through the door, attends virtually, or calls on the phone. She is genuinely a Guiding Star for the King Senior Center and the City of King.

Congratulations Paula!
