Stokes County issued the following announcement on January 14.
A Proclamation of a State of Emergency
by the County of Stokes
and the Imposition of Prohibitions and Restrictions
During the State of Emergency
the Board of Commissioners of Stokes County Do Hereby Act To:
I. Declare a State of Emergency in Recognition of the Present and
Immediate Threat to the Lives and Property of Citizens of Stokes
County Caused by the Ice and Power Outages of the Impending Winter
Weather Storm 01/14/2022.
2. Impose Those Prohibitions and Restrictions Authorized by the Stokes
County Emergency Ordinance, Parts I and 2, and Detailed Below.
Whereas, the Board of Commissioners of Stokes County (The "Commissioners") Has Determined That
the Impending Winter Weather 01/14/2022 Endangers the Lives, Safety, Health, and Welfare of the People
Within Stokes County or Any Part Thereof, or Threatens Damages to or Destruction of Property;
Whereas, the Commissioners Have Further Determined That the Impending Winter Weather
Storm 01/14/2022 Creates a Time of Public Crisis or Disaster in Which Public Authorities May Be Unable
to Maintain Public Order or Afford Adequate Protection for Lives, Safety, or Prope1ty Without the
Prohibitions and Restrictions Hereinafter Imposed; and
Now Therefore, Be It Resolved by the Board of County Commissioners of
Stokes County, North Carolina That;
1. a State of Emergency Is Hereby Declared by the Commissioners to Exist in Stokes County
Pursuant to A1ticle 36a of Chapter 14, Chapter 16a, and Chapter 153a of the North Carolina
General Statutes and Stokes County Emergency Ordinance Parts 1 and 2, as a Result of the
Imminent Threat of Winter Weather Storm 01/14/2022; and
2. Evacuation Shall Be Recommended or Mandated, as Determined by the Stokes County Office of
Emergency Management, the Coordinating Agency for All Activity in Connection with the State of
Emergency; and
3. Access Shall Be Prohibited to Any Area Designated by Any Order, Clearly Posted Notice, or Barricade
Indicated That Access Is Denied or Restricted, or as Determined by the Stokes County Office of
Emergency Management; and
4. the Board of Commissioners of Stokes County Shall by Proclamation Terminate the Entire
Declaration of Emergency or Remove Any Prohibitions When the Emergency No Longer Requires
Snch Action.
