High Point University issued the following announcement on September 14.

HIGH POINT, N.C., Sept. 14, 2021 – High Point University and Coca-Cola Consolidated, Inc. announced today the establishment of an endowed scholarship to honor Dr. Robert “Bob” Brown, a local philanthropist, entrepreneur and the chairman of the Board of Trustees at HPU.

“I grew up not far from High Point University,” said Brown. “I remember riding by and the people always looked so happy, and that inspired me. Education is essential to moving forward, and I’m honored to have this scholarship in my name. My grandmother taught me that life was about serving and giving, and that’s what HPU does, which is why I love this university.”

Dr. Nido Qubein, HPU president, announced the establishment of the Dr. Robert J. Brown Endowed Scholarship Fund today during a ceremony. The fund will provide eight to 10 scholarships every year to minority students who attend HPU.

High Point University President Dr. Nido Qubein and Coca-Cola Consolidated Chairman and CEO Frank Harrison, along with business associates and friends of Dr. Brown, contributed $3 million to the scholarship to honor his legacy. Annually, the fund will provide between eight to 10 scholarships to minority students who attend HPU.

“I would not miss this opportunity to honor Bob Brown,” said Harrison. “You all know Bob’s career, from the days in the civil rights movement to working in the White House, but it is his legacy that is remarkable and continues to grow. This scholarship will give young people the chance to go to college, get educated and go out and do what Bob has done – to have a major impact for good, for God and for the growth of the community.”

Brown holds 11 honorary doctorate degrees from various colleges and universities. He has been recognized with six national achievement awards, including being selected as a member of the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans. He was also a Special Assistant to President Nixon and an advisor to each succeeding President.

Brown is CEO & Founder of B&C International, a global business management consulting firm headquartered in High Point, N.C. He has served on numerous boards and foundations throughout the world, and he is a published author through his memoir, titled “You Can’t Go Wrong Doing Right.” The book takes readers behind the scenes of pivotal moments in his life.

“HPU is committed to diversity and inclusivity, and this scholarship honoring Bob’s legacy to help minority students attend High Point University is one reflection of that,” said Dr. Qubein. “When you think of an individual like Bob, planting a seed in the heart of one person, that one person can go out and change the world. The Dr. Robert J. Brown Endowed Scholarship Fund will provide students the opportunity to go to college and change the world.”
