Winston-Salem North Carolina issued the following announcement on September 3
The water level at Salem Lake will be lowered Tuesday, Sept. 7, to allow contractors to build a new boat ramp and repair the shoreline bulkhead as part of the phase II improvements to Salem Lake Park.
The water level is expected to remain lowered for 60 to 90 days. While the level is lowered, kayak rentals will be suspended and the shoreline paddle craft launch area will closed.
The Salem Creek Greenway will be closed from the Salem Lake Trail to the Reynolds Park Road access near Peachtree Street starting Tuesday, Sept. 7, until further notice because of higher flows in Salem Creek while the lake is drawn down.
Park visitors should stay off the lakebed while the water is down for their own safety.
Pier fishing and the Salem Lake trail will remain open to the public.
Phase II improvements include renovating the shoreline bulkhead, rebuilding the boat ramp, adding kayak storage and boat slips and building a picnic shelter near the playground. City voters approved $3.7 million for the improvements in the 2018 bond referendum.
Construction began in early August and is estimated to take 10 to 12 months.
