Winston-Salem North Carolina issued the following announcement on September 3.
Mayor Allen Joines has directed that City Hall, the Twin Arches over U.S. 52 and the Green Street suspension bridge and the Strollway bridge over Salem Parkway be illuminated in the blue and gold colors of Mount Tabor High School fatal shooting on campus on September 1st.
“We want the family of William Miller, as well as the entire Mount Tabor High School community, to know that our residents are standing with them in this difficult time and that they are in our thoughts and prayers,” Joines said.
William Chavis Raynard Miller Jr., a student at Mount Tabor, was shot on campus by another student shortly after noon yesterday and later died of his wounds. A suspect has been arrested.
The special lighting will start tonight and be up for a week. Joines is requesting that other businesses and building owners also light their buildings for a week in support of the Mount Tabor family.
Lighting the structures in Mount Tabor colors was suggested by a member of the Winston-Salem Youth Advisory Council, an advisory body comprising students from each high school in Winston-Salem and Forsyth County. Joines readily agreed.
