Forsyth County Recently Issued the Following Announcement on July 16.

The 2021 Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) is $237,492, which will be shared equally between the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office and Winston Salem Police Department. We have decided to use our portion of the JAG towards funding and enhancing the capabilities of the Real-Time Intelligence Center (RTIC). In order to best use this grant, we want your comments or suggestions on where we should allocate the additional money! Forsyth County and the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office are eligible to apply for and receive grant funds awarded through the Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG). The JAG Program, administered by the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), is the primary provider of federal criminal justice funding to state and local jurisdictions and supports a range of program areas including law enforcement, prosecution and court programs, prevention and education programs, corrections and community corrections, drug treatment and enforcement, crime victim and witness initiatives, and planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs.

All JAG allocations (eligibility information) are calculated by the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) based on the statutory JAG formula and displayed on BJA's JAG web page each fiscal year (FY). Refer to the JAG FAQ page 5 for a detailed step-by-step breakdown of the JAG award calculation process.

The 2021 JAG allocation to Forsyth County is $237,492, which will be shared equally by the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office and the Winston-Salem Police Department.

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office will use its portion ($118,746.00) of 2021 Justice Assistance Grant funding for continuing and enhancing the capabilities of the Real-Time Intelligence Center (RTIC). Expenditures could include software programing, surveillance equipment and other related equipment. The City proposes to use its share of grant funds ($118,746.00) for unmarked vehicles to be assigned to their Special Investigations Division. Grant scope modifications will be conducted as per Department of Justice/Bureau of Justice Assistance policies, guidelines and procedures.

The application deadline is August 9, 2021.
