Water customers in Rural Hall from the 7000 block of Broad Street (N.C. 66) south along University Parkway in Winston-Salem to Ziglar Road, as well as several side streets, are without water service tonight due to a water main break caused by recent freezing temperatures. Service was shutoff after 8 p.m. and on-call crews are working through the night to repair the damage. Updates will be provided as they become available.

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Utilities has responded to more than a dozen emergency calls since Friday. WSFC Utilities asks customers for continued patience while first responders work around the clock responding to each call.

For prompt assistance with a water emergency or sewer backup, you must call City Link at 336-727-8000. While WSFC Utilities cannot assist with plumbing repairs on private property, department staff can shut water off at the meter in an emergency.

If you are experiencing water problems at your home or business, turn off your main water supply shut-off valve to minimize flooding if a pipe breaks. Preventative steps are best taken before cold weather hits, but simple home improvement measures could prevent problems and expensive repairs in the future.

Customers can insulate water heaters, pipes and faucets, especially in unheated spaces, and disconnect and drain outdoor water hoses. During extreme cold, open cabinet doors for warmer air circulation and allow faucets to trickle slowly.
