The city plans to begin a major downtown repaving project in the Central Business District on Monday, June 26, with the closing of Fourth Street in two phases between Liberty and Broad streets. Sidewalks will remain open during the project, but the road will be closed around the clock. Detours will be posted. Delivery zones will be set up on Liberty and Spruce streets, and on Cherry Street ONLY between the hours of 5 to 8 a.m. Detours will be posted. Repaving Fourth Street is expected to take about two weeks if there are no delays for rain.On July 10, the city would close Fifth Street in two phases from Research Parkway to Broad Street, followed by Third Street in one phase from Research Parkway to Patterson Avenue. The city hopes that the work will be completed by Monday, July 31.The city of Winston-Salem and Downtown Winston-Salem Partnership are working to minimize disruptions to downtown residents, workers and visitors.
