The City Council has appointed Assistant City Manager Johnnie Taylor as interim city manager, beginning June 24. City Manager Lee Garrity, who has served as city manager since 2006, is retiring on June 23. The City Council plans to appoint a new city manager in July.

Taylor oversees the Central Warehouse, Employee Safety, Fleet, Human Resources, Information Systems, Operations, Recreation and Parks, Sanitation, Sustainability, Vegetation Management and Property and Facilities departments. He has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Salem University and is a graduate of the Public Executives Leadership Academy and the Municipal Administration Program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Government.
