City residents can see details about the proposed path for the Long Branch Trail extension and learn more about the project during an online public meeting to be held at 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 20.

Winston-Salem recently received a $6 million federal grant to extend the Long Branch Trail. The new portion will be 1.2 miles long and extend the existing trail along an inactive rail corridor from Martin Luther King Jr. Drive to 25th Street.
It will give underserved neighborhoods a greenway connection to downtown, providing safer access to community resources and jobs in downtown Winston-Salem.
It will also give residents in these neighborhoods a connection to more than 20 miles of other city greenways, and 15 miles of on-street bicycle lanes near the trail.
The $6 million grant is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s RAISE program to make transportation safer, more accessible, more affordable and more sustainable. RAISE stands for Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity.
