Code of Character, Conduct, and Support Has Been Extended

Clock

Good afternoon students, parents, and staff,

The end of the year is approaching, but we still have lots to fill you in on!

The open comment period for our newly proposed Code of Character, Conduct, and Support has been extended. We need to hear your thoughts. This new code will replace current the student handbook for next year as it addresses the development of character, while outlining expected behavioral norms that are essential to a successful school culture. We are asking for online public comments on the proposed Code of Character, Conduct, and Support through May. The document can be found on our website and comments can be made through May 26, by following the link in the story on our home page.

The district is also hosting several community forums to educate the public about the proposal. We’ve added some more on May 25 and 26th. Please check the website for information.

Tomorrow, our second annual Panorama survey, that asks about your child’s experience in the district, closes. We are asking for you to participate again in the Panorama Survey so we can provide better insight into the work we’ve been doing, include your recommendations, and really impact the climate and culture of each school. You should be getting information from your child’s school or can find more information on our website. (https://www.wsfcs.k12.nc.us/site/default.aspx?PageType=3...)

As you may know, this year the USDA allowed all school meals for students to be free of charge. But as we look to next year, the USDA has not extended those free meal waivers which means students will again have to pay for meals, based on meal eligibility status. Families who are eligible can continue to receive free or reduced cost meals based on their completion of a meal application for the upcoming school year. We highly encourage families, if they haven’t done so already this school year, to complete a meal application before June 9. That will ensure eligible families that free status for the first 30 days of next year. Families will need to complete a new application next year, starting in August but filling out one now makes sure your covered until the application for next year is available. Current meal applications are available online on the Child Nutrition website (https://www.wsfcs.k12.nc.us/Page/120143) and at your student’s school.

Thanks for being a part of the WS/FCS family, have a great rest of the week!
