The Winston-Salem Fire Department decided to do more than protecting the community.
Department personnel wanted to make sure residents have enough food to feed their families. To make that a reality, the department teamed up with the Galilee Baptist Church to distribute free boxes of food every Thursday through the month of October, according to information on the Winston-Salem website.
One-hundred boxes filled with fresh fruit, vegetables, dairy, or meat will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis starting at 11 a.m. on Thursday mornings until the “farmers to families” food boxes are gone.
The next distribution occurs on Thursday, Oct. 22, at the Ego Beauty Supply Store parking lot, 1232 Waughtown St.
On Thursday, Oct. 29, the food boxes will be distributed at Carver High School, 3545 Carver School Road.
According to the City of Winston-Salem website, the food boxes are made available by the U.S. Agriculture Department’s Coronavirus Food Assistance Program.
