The Winston-Salem City Council scheduled a virtual public hearing for Wednesday, Sept. 8, to discuss the Airport/Whitaker Park Plan, city leaders said.

Four community meetings have happened with elected officials, planning staff, residents and business owners to collaborate about producing the draft for the Smith Reynolds Airport/Whitaker Park Strategic Area Plan, the city said on Aug. 21 when announcing the meeting.

This strategic plan has approximately 25 recommendations to help utilize the Smith Reynolds Airport and Whitaker Business Park areas, the city said in the release. The site's location is close to the Innovation Quarter, which could help spur economic growth and nearby communities.

The plan also has recommendations on making the airport a more attractive gateway to Winston-Salem for air travelers through potential streetscape and development improvements, the meeting notice said.

The City-County Planning Board unanimously adopted the strategic plan on March 12.

The virtual public hearing will begin at 7 p.m. Community members may participate in the meeting via Zoom or watch the session on WSTV-13.

Citizens who wish to participate in the assemblage are encouraged to start logging on to the meeting remotely at 6:30 p.m. by clicking here.
