Individuals facing homelessness in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, can now access warming center services at The Dwelling. This facility, located at 502 N. Broad Street, began operations on Friday, November 29, at 8 p.m.

The White Flag response is a temporary emergency measure that activates during severe weather conditions. It comes into effect when overnight temperatures are forecasted to fall below 32°F with precipitation.

While the warming center does not serve as a sleeping shelter, it offers a warm space for individuals seeking relief from the cold. Those bringing animals must ensure they are leashed or kept in a crate while inside the center.

From December 1 through February 28, both the warming center and the women’s shelter at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church will be open nightly. For further information and volunteer opportunities, visit https://www.thedwellingws.org/wintershelter.

Families requiring shelter should contact 211 for assistance and information regarding available shelters.
