The city of Winston-Salem is actively engaged in providing relief for Western North Carolina following Hurricane Helene. This effort is part of the North Carolina Mutual Aid Agreement (NCMAA), which facilitates resource sharing among local governments during emergencies.

Winston-Salem's response includes several key deployments:

The Winston-Salem Fire Department has sent 25 staff members, a FEMA Type 1 Swiftwater Rescue Team with necessary equipment, and an engine crew to assist in rescue operations on September 29 and 30.

The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Office of Emergency Management deployed two staff members on September 29 and October 2. They are also coordinating with NC WaterWARN and NC State Emergency Management to evaluate needs in the affected areas.

Winston-Salem Forsyth County Utilities is participating in coordination meetings and plans to deploy additional resources soon.

Additionally, the Winston-Salem Police Department will send 22 staff members this week to help protect resources in Asheville.

Individuals or groups wishing to contribute can find a list of organizations for assistance at www.ReadyForsyth.org under "Western NC Assistance Resources & Contacts."
