Carolina University Softball faced Mars Hill in a doubleheader on Tuesday. The Bruins struggled in the first game, losing 0-8, but managed to secure a victory in the second game with a score of 12-8.
In the first game, the Bruins were unable to score any runs and only achieved two hits. However, they came back strong in the second game. They took an early lead by scoring three runs in the first inning. Grace Johnson's double and subsequent steal set up Danielle Brooks to bring her home with a single. Grace Andrews then hit a home run down the left-field line, earning two RBIs and establishing a 3-0 lead.
Senior Kourtney Cox added another run for the Bruins in the sixth inning with a home run over the left field fence, bringing the score to 5-4 before heading into the bottom of that inning.
In a tense seventh inning, Kalea Bolch hit another home run for Carolina University, bringing home two base runners and reclaiming an 8-5 lead. The Lions responded by scoring three runs in their half of the inning, tying it at 8-8.
The Bruins secured their win in extra innings when Grace Johnson hit a grand slam in the eighth inning, bringing all three base runners home and sealing their victory.
Overall, four Bruins hit home runs during this game, with Grace Andrews achieving her first of the season. The team recorded 12 RBIs, with Grace Johnson leading with four. Pitchers Madison Hamilton, Mary Mac Miller, and Danielle Brooks contributed to this effort, with Brooks being credited with the win.
