The Young Dreamers Award, which recognizes young adults who have made a significant impact on marginalized communities, has honored two exceptional individuals this year. Britney Dent, the director of programs for LEAD Girls of NC, and Saliah Rice, a dedicated advocate working with the United Way of Forsyth County, have been recognized for their remarkable contributions.

Dent's leadership and dedication to the literacy program at LEAD Girls NC have resulted in remarkable achievements. Her nominator states that under her supervision, girls have seen significant improvement in their reading tests, moving from one-half to a full grade level. Dent's passion for education and community service is evident through her involvement in various organizations, such as Triad Restorative Justice, where she serves on the board. Additionally, she actively volunteers with local organizations that prioritize education and community service. Dent holds a bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and is currently pursuing a master's degree from the same institution.

Rice, on the other hand, has made a difference through her work with the United Way of Forsyth County and her entrepreneurial endeavors. Alongside her role at the United Way, Rice also operates an event planning and decorating business. Her commitment to youth is evident as she offers youth design courses and partners with youth organizations to inspire them to become entrepreneurs. Rice holds a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Gardner-Webb University.

The Young Dreamers Award, established by the Human Relations Commission in 2009, aims to encourage young adults to actively participate in philanthropic and altruistic community involvement. The award seeks to honor individuals who exemplify the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr. and inspire others to do the same.

The recognition of Britney Dent and Saliah Rice highlights the exceptional contributions of young adults in improving the lives of marginalized communities. Their dedication and commitment serve as an inspiration for others, showing that age is not a barrier to making a tangible difference. As Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "The time is always right to do what is right." These young dreamers have embraced this sentiment and are making a meaningful impact on their communities.
