HPU graduates are leading prestigious career paths around the world at Fortune 500 companies, international service programs, public school systems, top-tier law, medical and graduate school programs, and many other esteemed organizations thanks to their journey at HPU. Here’s a glimpse of one extraordinary graduate from the Class of 2022:

Name: Anthony Sauchelli

Hometown: Manalapan, New Jersey

Major: Psychology

Post-graduation plans: Sauchelli is attending St. George’s University in Grenada to pursue a Doctor of Medicine.

How HPU helped you get there: “HPU prepared me and so many others for the world beyond our undergraduate studies. The natural sciences and behavioral sciences faculty inspired and guided me to pursue such a humbling profession. Their passion for not only educating but wanting students to strive beyond their expectations is something I appreciate when looking back on my departure from HPU. With their help and effort, I felt exceedingly prepared to transition from HPU to medical school.”

Most impactful mentor at HPU: “My biggest mentors at HPU were Rusty Smith, professor of trumpet, and Steven McHugh, professor of drum set. They were two individuals I spent a lot of time with over my four years of continuing my musical education. As a student on a pre-med track, I met with them each week to do what I love—play music. I developed relationships with them well beyond the musical practice rooms. Dr. James Pampush, assistant professor of exercise science, was also one of my most impactful mentors. He introduced me to the fundamentals of anatomy and was an excellent guide in getting into my current field. Without these three individuals, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”

Most impactful moment at HPU: “In March 2020, receiving the email stating that HPU would close its doors and continue with virtual learning was something that impacted not only myself but the entire world. The pandemic affected individuals globally, and at that time my career goals were still up in the air. Losing part of my experience at HPU while witnessing individuals who sacrificed to help those in need helped solidify my future path. I am grateful for the guidance HPU provided students to continue academic learning and stay on track through a difficult time that lacked normalcy.”

How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success? “HPU’s extraordinary learning experience starts the minute you pass through the gates, whether you’re an admitted student or not. As you walk along the Kester International Promenade, you see quotes and statues of innovative people who have changed the world and flags representing every home country of HPU students. It is amazing to see such small details on a campus used for a much bigger purpose. With so many different clubs and activities for students to join, it is a school built for success. Utilizing HPU’s inspiring environment helped me get to where I am today.”

What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “HPU does an excellent job of opening the doors to opportunity and creating a vast network among faculty and peers looking to pursue similar goals. The elaborate psychology and pre-med curriculum helped me develop time management, which is so important in medical school. HPU’s small class sizes taught me to not be afraid to speak up, ask questions and work with other students around me to optimize my learning experience.”

What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation? “I learned many values from the staff at HPU, including the security team, cafeteria staff and the Campus Enhancement team. Watching them serve the students of HPU with a smile on their faces was not something I took lightly. Those individuals work so hard to keep us safe and provide for each student. I am so grateful to have been surrounded by such a caring and hardworking staff, and with them, I have learned the importance of serving the community by putting others before yourself.”

Advice for underclassmen: “Introduce yourself to others—you never know who you’re sitting next to. Put yourself out there. You could be opening a door to possibilities you never imagined. Enjoy your time and take photos. You’ll look back on these short four years for the rest of your life.”
