Family Friday Staff Feature: Candace Campbell

Candace Campbell has been a member of the HPU family since March of 2022 and is the health and wellness manager. She is the registered dietitian on campus for all students and serves as part of the Dining Services team to ensure quality nutrition and ingredient transparency of all HPU meals.

How do you contribute to HPU’s mission to ensure every student receives an extraordinary education in an inspiring environment with caring people?

I strongly believe a major life skill is learning how food plays a role in one’s health. Just like all of HPU faculty and staff, I am dedicated to putting our students first and providing them with the knowledge to live their healthiest life after they leave HPU.

How do you help students develop life skills that they will use to achieve lives of success and significance after they graduate from HPU?

I help students learn one of the most critical life skills: How to eat properly! I am always available to students, whether they want to have a sit-down appointment with me or just swing by to ask a question about what’s for lunch in the Café. I enjoy showing students that all foods can fit into a healthy, balanced lifestyle!

What is a way that you contribute to students’ personal growth outside the classroom?

A large part of personal growth happens through day-to-day activities. By guiding students in understanding nutritious food choices, I help them create sustainable, lifelong habits for a healthy and prosperous life outside of High Point University.

What are you looking forward to most for this academic year?

Getting to know students! After all, they are the reason we are here. I look forward to being another smiling face on campus that our students can use as a resource.

What’s one thing you want students and parents to know about HPU?

We are truly dedicated to our students! Teaching students how food connects to our health and instilling lifelong, healthy habits is a passion of mine, and I love sharing my knowledge with students.

What’s one way you generate creativity or productivity?

We hold recipe development sessions with our culinary team at HPU that really pushes our creativity. This allows us to create new, innovative menu items for our students. In addition to this, we also hold tabling events at least once a month for Health and Wellness. These events help us get our message on campus by introducing a new food item or playing food trivia to test students’ knowledge.

What is your favorite quote?

“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” – Eleanor Roosevelt

What is your favorite place on campus?

The Slane Student Center! Not only is it busy with students, it’s also close to food and offers some beautiful views if you sit outside on the veranda.

What do you love most about working at HPU?

The team! Everyone is so supportive and ready to lend a helping hand. Their passion for helping students is clear and shows in our everyday work.
