Flat Rock Middle School 8th Grader Becomes the WS/FCS Spelling Champion

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools issued the following announcement on February 18.

February 18, 2022 - Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools held our annual district-wide Spelling Bee this morning.  After almost three hours of spelling, it came down to an 8th grader from Flat Rock Middle School, Ashton Warren and 3rd grader Tucker Wood of Griffith Elementary.

Tucker missed the word "cattalo," so Ashton was given the chance to spell a word correctly.  He aced "quinary."

That meant he was given the chance to spell one more word correctly to win the championship.  His word was "catalepsy," which means a trancelike state of consciousness.

Ashton nailed it and was crowned the 2022 Spelling Champion.

So Tucker Wood took second place and Stephen Kidder in 4th grade at Southwest Elementary came in third.

The entire Spelling Bee can be seen again tomorrow and Sunday at 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Spectrum Cable 2.

You can also watch the Spelling Bee online at this link.
