Winston-Salem & Forsyth County Schools issued the following announcement on October 29.
OCTOBER 29, 2021 – At the regular meeting of the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Board of Education on Oct. 28, the board voted to approve funding for five additional School Resource Officers for the remainder of a school year and to continue its mask mandate for another month to curb the spread of COVID-19 and keep more students and teachers in the classroom.
Earlier this year, the General Assembly passed a law that requires school boards to vote on masking once a month for the entire school year. Gov. Roy Cooper has not issued a statewide mask mandate for schools, choosing to let local boards make the decision.
The board also voted to make Friday, Nov. 12 a day off for students and staff.
The work for staff that day will be to take care of themselves. It will be a day to focus on the mental health of students and staff by showing kindness, community and connection
Other items approved include:
Updated Middle School Choice zones to reflect the addition of the new Lewisville Middle School
Executing an option for land at 1201 Patterson Avenue that would be used for a new building for Brunson Elementary School.
