WS/FCS Continues Masking for Students and Employees through November

Winston-Salem & Forsyth County Schools issued the following announcement on October 29.

OCTOBER 29, 2021 – At the Oct. 28 meeting of the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Board of Education, the members of the Board of Education voted to continue to have everyone wear a mask for another month.

The vote came after a presentation by Katie Key, is the WS/FCS Director of School Nursing.

Key reported that, in the most recent four-week reporting period, the total the number of COVID-19 cases among students and staff members has gone down.

In the most-recent reporting period, 679 students and 103 staff members had COVID-19 for a total number of 782 cases.

In the previous reporting period, a total of 1,114 students and staff had COVID-19.

“You can see your numbers have gone down,” Key said.

If a community is in the “high” or “substantial” category, the state recommends that everyone wear masks and that is still the case for Forsyth County.

When a community’s transmissions are classified as “moderate” for 7 days, masks could be considered optional for students who have been vaccinated.

If the community’s transmissions are classified as “low,” masks could be considered optional for everyone.
