More than two months after Hurricane Isaias made landfall in North Carolina, President Donald Trump made a disaster declaration, which received praise from Rep. Lee Zachary (R-Yadkin).
"Today, President Trump has declared that a major disaster exists in the State of North Carolina and ordered Federal assistance to supplement State, tribal, and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by Hurricane Isaias," Zachary said in an Oct. 14 Facebook post about the declaration.
Areas of North Carolina that Hurricane Isaias damaged are now eligible for federal aid and relief, in addition to support the state Legislature has already provided.
Zachary also linked to coverage by ABC 12, which listed the 15 counties affected by the declaration, including Beaufort, Bertie, Brunswick, Carteret, Chowan, Columbus, Craven, Hertford, Hyde, Jones, New Hanover, Onslow, Pamlico, Pender, and Pitt counties.
In addition to the funds being made available for immediate response to the hurricane's after-effects, funding will be available for communities to take hazard mitigation steps, according to ABC 12.
