The City of Winston-Salem is inviting residents to take part in a voluntary survey aimed at gathering feedback on city government and the services it provides. The seven-page survey focuses on identifying areas where residents see the greatest need for service improvement and investment. According to city officials, responses will help guide future planning and investments in city services.
Residents interested in participating can complete the survey online at WSNCSurvey.org. The deadline for submission is December 7.
In addition to the voluntary online option, about 10,000 households across Winston-Salem have already received mailed surveys. These households were randomly selected to represent different geographic areas and demographic factors within the city, ensuring a statistically valid sample.
Scott Tesh, budget and performance management director for the city, explained that data from both voluntary participants and those who received mailed surveys will be provided to the mayor and City Council. “The surveys completed by voluntary participants will be compiled separately from the surveys mailed to city residents; however, data from both sets of results will be provided to the mayor and City Council,” said Tesh.
To ensure reliable results, the city has hired ETC Institute of Olathe, Kansas, to administer the survey. If certain demographic groups or neighborhoods are underrepresented in responses, ETC may seek additional input as needed. “City officials have retained ETC Institute of Olathe, Kan., to administer the survey and provide the city with statistically valid results,” Tesh said. “If necessary, ETC will solicit additional responses in the event that some demographic groups or geographic areas are too under-represented to provide a valid sample.”
This is not the first time Winston-Salem has worked with ETC Institute; a similar survey was conducted in 2023.
