The Winston-Salem Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting on September 4 to gather feedback on the 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP). The event is scheduled from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Forsyth County Central Library, located at 660 W. Fifth St.

The Winston-Salem Area Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) is currently evaluating transportation needs for the region through the year 2050. The MTP covers all forms of transportation, including cars, public transit, bicycles, walking, freight movement, and air travel.

According to city officials, “The MTP identifies local transportation needs through public input, growth forecasting, traffic modeling, and a review of local plans. These needs have been matched with recommended transportation projects based on a forecast of available funding over the next twenty-plus years. The result is a comprehensive blueprint for effective transportation decision-making and investment.”

During the meeting, attendees can also comment on the region’s Prioritization project list and the TPO’s 2026-2035 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), which outlines construction and funding plans for area projects over the next decade.

Residents are encouraged to participate in an online survey about these plans until September 15 at https://engagekh.mysocialpinpoint.com/Winston-SalemMTP.
