The Winston-Salem Recreation and Parks Department announced on May 21 that city pools and splash pads will open for the summer season starting May 23.

This announcement is important for families looking for recreational activities during the warmer months. The opening of these facilities provides residents with options for swimming, water play, and swim lessons at various locations across the city.

Splash pads are already open and will remain available until September 25. These water playgrounds use fixtures that spray water without standing pools, making them suitable for small children. Splash pads recirculate and filter water to save resources, do not require lifeguards or staff, and are considered a popular alternative to traditional pools. Mineral Springs and Polo Park splash pads follow the pool schedule during pool season and require an entry fee.

Bolton and Winston Waterworks pools will open on Saturday, May 23. Kimberley Park, Long Creek, Parkland, Polo, Reynolds Park Pools will open on Saturday, May 30. Mineral Springs Pool is set to open on Saturday, June 8. Swim lessons are available at $5 per session for city residents or $20 per session for non-residents. Registration opens online beginning at 9:00 am on several dates depending on age group: Babes in Arms (6-36 months), Preschool (3-5 years), Youth (6-18 years) with multiple sessions throughout the summer, and Adults (15+ years). More information about operation hours can be found through the City of Winston-Salem’s website, as well as details about swim classes here.

The City of Winston-Salem serves as a municipal government overseeing local public services such as recreation facilities within its North Carolina boundaries; it also supports economic development by aiding businesses and fostering community growth; manages infrastructure including extensive water treatment capabilities; operates under a City Council with eight members representing wards plus a mayor elected citywide; enacts local laws; approves budgets; sets taxes—all according to the official website.

Looking ahead, families interested in participating in aquatic activities this summer are encouraged to visit the city’s website for further updates regarding schedules or registration.
