Wake Forest University held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new office building at The Grounds, which will accommodate 400 university staff members upon its completion in 2027.

Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Jackie Travisano commented on the future role of the building, stating, “This place will be a hub of great energy, excitement and collaborative work.”

The event included a lunchtime celebration at Bridger Field House at Allegacy Federal Credit Union Stadium for employees from departments that will move into the five-story building. Afterward, attendees gathered at the construction site for the official groundbreaking.

Departments scheduled to relocate include Financial Services, Human Resources, Information Systems, the Legal Department, Audit and Compliance Services, University Advancement, and University Marketing and Communications.

President Susan R. Wente addressed those present and described the project as “another big step forward for The Grounds.”

The Grounds is a 100-acre mixed-use development located in the Deacon Boulevard area near major event venues in North Carolina. The project is led by Carter, Front Street Capital, Wake Forest University, and the City of Winston-Salem. It aims to create a year-round community space featuring retail outlets, dining options, entertainment venues, offices, recreational activities, walking trails, and new residential options. Adam Parker of Carter and Coleman Team as well as Coleman Team of Front Street also spoke during the ceremony.

Earlier this year saw additional progress within The Grounds development: construction began on Creekside at the Grounds—the first residential project—in July; in August, an updated Deacon Boulevard was opened to traffic.
