The Wake Forest University Board of Trustees has granted tenure and promotion to two faculty members from the School of Business. These advancements are effective July 1 and recognize their dedication to research, teaching, and contributions to both the university community and their fields.

Dean Annette Ranft said, “The awarding of tenure to Jia Li and the promotion of Tom Canace to Professor are significant achievements that reflect their scholarly contributions and deep commitment to our students. Their impactful research and teaching significantly enrich our academic environment, and we congratulate them on their accomplishments.”

Jia Li has been awarded tenure as an Associate Professor of Marketing. His research utilizes big data to tackle complex marketing issues with implications for organizational behavior, human resources, operations management, and economics. His work includes developing a machine learning-driven bonus system for a Fortune Global 100 company with a projected annual financial impact of $4.66 million. Additionally, his ongoing project examines consumer responses to AI-generated advertising. Li’s work is published in top-tier journals like Marketing Science and Journal of Marketing. He also serves as Vice President of Career Development for the Charlotte chapter of the American Marketing Association.

Tom Canace has been promoted to Professor of Accountancy. His post-tenure publications include four in Financial Times Top 50 journals such as Review of Accounting Studies. His research focuses on capital markets, corporate ownership, financial disclosure, regulation, and analysts’ forecasts. Canace employs innovative teaching methods like custom case studies to enhance student learning. He has served on the University’s Research Advisory Council and editorial boards for accounting journals.

Both faculty members have demonstrated leadership within their disciplines since joining Wake Forest University—Li in 2017 with a Ph.D. from Washington University in St. Louis, and Canace in 2009 with a Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina.
