Professor Aeimit Lakdawala recently provided analysis for FactCheck.org regarding statements about the pace of economic growth in the United States. According to Lakdawala, while the U.S. economy has experienced ongoing expansion, current data do not confirm assertions of unprecedented or record-setting growth rates.

Lakdawala also addressed expectations that policy changes, such as new tariffs, would lead to rapid economic acceleration. He stated that such shifts are unlikely to have a dramatic impact on growth in the short term and stressed the need for political claims to be based on sound economic evidence.

“There is no evidence that recent economic growth is unprecedented or record-breaking,” Lakdawala said. “Policy shifts — including tariffs — are unlikely to dramatically accelerate growth in the short run, underscoring the importance of grounding political claims in economic evidence.”
