Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Utilities is once again sponsoring Forsyth Creek Week, providing an opportunity for residents to tour one of their facilities. This year, the Muddy Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant in Winston-Salem will open its doors on March 26 at 5:30 p.m. Visitors can meet professionals responsible for processing and treating wastewater according to state permits. The event includes an indoor presentation and outdoor walking tour, which will last approximately 90 minutes. No RSVP is required.
The Muddy Creek facility has been operational since 1986 and discharges treated water into the Yadkin River. It features a methane cogeneration system that contributes power to the electric grid. Recent updates include a pump station designed to handle excess raw wastewater by transferring it to the Archie Elledge Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Attendees can expect free gifts and participate in prize drawings for tickets to local events, such as a Carolina Thunderbirds hockey game, ice skating passes at the Fairgrounds, and Salem Lake kayak rentals. Additionally, participants will receive toilet leak detecting tablets as part of the EPA’s annual Fix a Leak Week initiative from March 17-23.
