Winston-Salem water customers in the areas of Stratford Road, Hanes Mall Boulevard, and Peters Creek Parkway may notice temporary discoloration at their faucets this evening. Work at Neilson Water Treatment Plant has the potential to release harmless sediment in the system. Crews are actively monitoring the areas that may be impacted and will address reports with strategic flushing of hydrants.

“If discoloration in tap water occurs, it remains safe for drinking, cooking and bathing. It is fully treated, and this work does not impact public health and safety.” The statement emphasizes that if water appears discolored, it is purely a matter of appearance and not a state or federal water quality violation. It is recommended that impacted customers refrain from washing laundry to avoid potential staining of light-colored material.

Customers can help monitor impact and prioritize response efforts by reporting pressure fluctuations or discolored water to CityLink using any method at cityofws.org/citylink. Subscribe to Alert Center and News Flash for Utilities updates at cityofws.org/notifyme.
