After 33 years at Wake Forest Law, Margaret Taylor has transitioned to the role of Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. Taylor expressed her honor in joining the leadership team led by Dean Andy Klein during a crucial period for the law school. Recently, Wake Forest Law underwent a site visit from the American Bar Association as part of its reaccreditation process, which occurs every decade. The preparatory work included a detailed submission over 200 pages long.
Taylor emphasized that "Wake Forest Law occupies a special place in legal education," and acknowledged the support from alumni in educating future lawyers.
The institution is preparing for Deacs Day of Giving on April 8, encouraging alumni participation to support scholarships, experiential education, public interest grants, and student activities.
In other updates, alumna Bonita Brown discussed her career path on the Wake Women podcast. Reece Saunders Jr. and Bill Webb Jr. received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine Award for their contributions to North Carolina. Tiffany Johnson was confirmed as a US District Judge for Georgia's Northern District.
Wake Forest Law's Black Law Students Association celebrated its 40th Annual Scholarship Banquet with MasterChef alum Kamay Lafalaise as keynote speaker. Nagehan Ilemin Alan participated in a panel discussion on climate change and human rights in Turkey.
The Public Interest Law Organization Auction raised $15,000 to support students working unpaid public-interest jobs over summer. The Moot Court team will compete at nationals after winning regionals.
Faculty achievements include Professor John H. Knox's article on Indigenous peoples' rights and Professor Chris Coughlin's co-authored journal article on bioethics post-Dobbs decision.
