In response to a national directive from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), WSFC Utilities is seeking assistance from its residential and commercial water customers to identify any remaining lead pipes in their service lines. This effort is part of a broader initiative requiring all public water utilities to determine the material composition of every service line within their systems.

WSFC Utilities has been delivering tap water that meets or exceeds federal quality standards for over two decades, including compliance with lead regulations. Customers are now being asked to participate in this identification process by visiting cityofws.org/pipes and using the online Customer Service Line Inventory tool.

The utility emphasizes the urgency of completing this task by August 30 to avoid additional costs and efforts associated with follow-up procedures. Customers can expedite verification by uploading a digital photo of their service line material as part of the reporting process.

"Why do you need to do this? This is a new EPA rule and staff can’t enter your private property. WSFC Utilities truly needs your help," states the utility, highlighting the necessity for customer involvement due to restrictions on accessing private properties.

Despite lead not being as prevalent an issue in warmer climates like theirs, WSFC Utilities assures that existing measures since 1992 have effectively controlled corrosion, minimizing potential lead exposure through treated tap water. Information regarding pipe replacement will be provided later in the program's progression.

Exposure to lead poses significant health risks across age groups, including cognitive impairments in children and increased cardiovascular risks in adults, according to information available at epa.gov/lead.

For further details or inquiries about the Lead Compliance Program, customers are encouraged to visit cityofws.org/pipes or contact CityLink via cityofws.org/citylink. Updates can also be received through subscriptions at cityofws.org/notifyme.
