Carolina University Women's Volleyball team faced Montreat College in their season opener, resulting in a narrow 3-2 defeat. The match, held in Winston-Salem, NC, saw the Cavaliers clinch the first two sets with scores of 25-21 and 25-18. However, the Bruins responded strongly by winning the third set 25-15 and the fourth set 25-21. In the decisive fifth set, Montreat established an early lead of 8-3 that Carolina could not overcome.
Key performers for Carolina included newcomers SarahElizabeth Samuels with 16 kills and Camilla Garner with 12 kills. Veteran setter Kamra King contributed significantly with 26 assists. On defense, Rebecca Walker made an impact with 20 digs while Garner and Erica Pasa each recorded five blocks in their debut matches for the Bruins.
Head Coach Chelsea Jones expressed pride in her team's performance: "I am so proud of the team tonight," she stated. "Even though we didn't win in the record books, it was a huge step in the right direction. We have so many new faces on the team, so getting comfortable was the goal tonight, and I think they accomplished that."
The Bruins are scheduled to return to Williams Gymnasium this Saturday for a tri-match against Ferrum College from NCAA Division III and NCCAA South Region rival Paine College.
