The Historic Resources Commission is seeking input from residents on a proposal to nominate to the National Register of Historic Places R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. buildings 82 and 83, at 821 E. 25th St., Winston-Salem, N.C. 27105.
According to the Historic Resources Commission, "Comments will be accepted when the commission considers the nomination during its meeting on Wednesday, May 1, at 4 p.m." The meeting will take place in the Bryce A. Stuart Municipal Building’s Arnold G. King Public Meeting Room at 100 E. First St., Winston-Salem, N.C. 27101.
The commission highlighted the significance of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. buildings 82 and 83, stating, "R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. buildings 82 and 83 are significant locally for their industrial history." Additionally, they noted that "Their location shows the company’s growth beyond the original downtown plant."
The period of significance for these buildings begins in 1919 with the buildings’ construction and ends in 1973, as mentioned by the Historic Resources Commission.
