The Historic Resources Commission is set to mark Historic Preservation Month in May with a series of engaging activities for history enthusiasts in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. One of the highlights includes free tours of the iconic Union Station located at 300 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. The tours, scheduled for Saturday, May 18 at 10 a.m. and Thursday, May 30 at 4 p.m., offer a unique opportunity to explore the historical significance of the building.

Union Station, a structure with a rich history dating back to its construction in 1926, holds a special place on the National Register of Historic Places. Following a restoration project in 2018-19, the station now serves as the hub for the city's transportation traffic signal-control operations. According to the information provided, the station was designed by Fellheimer and Wagner, a well-known architectural firm from New York, renowned for their work on train stations across the country. The design of Union Station beautifully blends the Beaux Arts style with Neoclassical details, showcasing a unique architectural fusion.

In addition to the tours, a Trivia Night centered around local history is scheduled for Monday, May 6 at 7:30 p.m. at Wise Man Brewing, located at 826 Angelo Bros Ave. This event promises to be a fun and educational experience for those interested in delving deeper into the city's past.

To stay updated on all the activities happening throughout Historic Preservation Month, individuals are encouraged to visit PreservationForsyth.org.
