Patent office takes 1,390 days to approve Lewisville inventor’s patent in week ending June 4

Patent 15

The longest time between a patent being filed and granted in the week ending June 4 in Lewisville was 1,390 days, according to the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

The patent application was filed by Steven Alexis Cukiernik for a method, apparatus, and computer program product for measuring and interpreting metrics of an athletic action and an object associated therewith. It was filed on Aug. 10, 2018 before being approved on May 31, 2022.

Though patents are required for inventions and products, the granting of a patent is not a guarantee for success. Dennis Crouch, co-director of the Center for Intellectual Property & Entrepreneurship said roughly 50 percent of patents expire prematurely due to costs.

There were three patents granted for Lewisville inventors in the week ending June 4.
