A big part of the cost of medical care comes from prescription medication, especially for those with chronic conditions requiring long-term treatment.
Those on a tight budget sometimes find themselves in a situation where they cut back their medicine or do without. That no longer needs to be the case for those in Forsyth County as United Health Centers recently opened a pharmacy in Winston-Salem.
"We are really excited to be opening the organization's first pharmacy," Dr. Raven Scales, director of Pharmacy for United Health Centers, said in a WFMY News 2 report this week. "We started this process in May, so it took us around 10 months from start to finish. This pharmacy will provide patients who don't have insurance or who have insurance but don't have affordable co-pays to be able to afford their medication."
Those without insurance no longer will have to worry about how they are going to afford their prescriptions, as this pharmacy will cover thousands of uninsured Forsyth County patients, the report said. It's also convenient, as it's inside the United Health Centers clinic, meaning a patient only needs to walk down the hallway from their doctor to pick up their medication.
The pharmacy is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
