Rabbi Charlie Cytron-Walker could be the next rabbi at Temple Emanuel in Winston-Salem.

The rabbi has become known as a hero due to his recent actions, which made national news.

Cytron-Walker is currently the spiritual leader at Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville, Texas, which entered the news during a Jan. 15 hostage incident at the synagogue. The rabbi was praised for his leadership during that troubling situation and is expected to begin work at his new synagogue this summer.

“Congregation Beth Israel and the Colleyville community will always be remembered with love," Cytron-Walker told Fox 8 News on Feb. 25. "And I am honored, grateful and excited to join the Temple Emanuel family as their next rabbi. I’m looking forward to forming deep relationships through service to this vibrant, compassionate congregation.”

The congregation at Temple Emanuel voted unanimously on Feb. 24 to begin contract negotiations with the rabbi. Temple Emanuel is presently home to about 280 families. The synagogue's current rabbi, Mark Cohn, will end his 21 years with the synagogue in June to move to Massachusetts, according to Fox 8 News.

Temple Emanuel practices reform Judaism. The goals of the congregation are "to cultivate an inclusive Jewish life through education, engagement and spiritual purpose," according to Fox 8 News.
